The Role:
We're seeking a Quality Engineer to join our team at Flint Assembly. In this role, you'll be instrumental in upholding purpose and values while ensuring a safe, high-quality manufacturing environment. You will support plant operations in achieving business objectives, particularly those tied to quality performance and supplier issue resolution-by leading engineering and supplier quality initiatives during the off shift.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate with General Assembly and Body Shop teams to identify, contain, and resolve engineering and supplier quality issues.
- Document supplier concerns by writing SPPS reports and initiating containment actions at supplier facilities.
- Partner with third-party containment providers to oversee sorting, inspection, and rework activities outside of Flint Assembly.
- Supervise a small team (3-4 hourly employees) within the Supplier Action Center (SAC) to ensure accurate inspection and rework processes.
- Develop clear Task Instruction Sheets (TIS) for sorting, inspection, and rework tasks.
- Provide detailed end-of-shift reports and conduct daily handoffs with 1st shift Quality Engineers.
- Communicate findings and feedback on scrap and nonconforming parts to production teams.
- Track and analyze supplier quality defects through internal tracking systems.
- Represent the Quality department in production meetings and cross-functional discussions.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in automotive engineering, quality, or manufacturing.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proven problem-solving ability and sound judgment in managing complex or ambiguous situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work up to two Saturdays per month.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with GSIP, ECM, Excel, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, Teamcenter, and MPDs.
- Red X Journeyman or equivalent technical problem-solving certification.
- Demonstrated experience in supplier quality or containment management.
Work Schedule:
- Shift: Off Shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Schedule: Up to two Saturday shifts per month
