Job Summary:

  • The Industrial Engineer - Powertrain will be responsible for direct/indirect labor and activities affecting line speed, cycle checks, scrolls and workstation assignments, change control and line balancing.
  • A qualified candidate will utilize lean concepts to identify/eliminate waste and perform time/motion studies. The Engineer will assist the IE Manager and IE Supervisor with technical services to maintain efficient levels of lean manufacturing and manning.

Tasks and Duties:

Work Measurement (Provide time valuations and analysis of work content)

  • Time Study Jobs as required

Elemental breakdown and summarizations,

  • 3 M Analysis (Muri,Mura, Muda)

Perform MURI analysis & create Chart updates for assembly line

Perform MURA analysis (videotaping and analysis) & update as required

Perform MUDA analysis - Rebalance Jobs to improve cycle time and balance work

  • Create VA/SVA/NVA detailed analysis info/charts for assembly stations (on-going)
  • Golden Zone validation and summarization

Optimize part presentation and tool placement

  • Time tool changes
  • Time gaging and quality checks
  • Work Sampling IL as required
  • All daytime study logs for non-repetitive assignments
  • Use predetermined time systems (e.g. MODAPTS) and standard data.
  • Update VSOPs-SWI's (OPL's, etc.

Including standard work, tool change info, gaging QC plan


Process Analysis (The review of manufacturing systems and equipment for conformance to expected operating parameters)

  • Trouble shooting analysis

Log Lines/Equipment (as required)

  • Record faults, defects, Uptime, Gaging time, etc.
  • Check Cycle Times
  • Analyze data
  • Summarize findings.
  • Write up Kaizen(s) as required
  • Validate FIS/ANDON Information as required

Validate FIS Data on new lines.

  • Machine cycle times
  • Machine state status
  • Work with Plant IT and Plant/Corporate Controls Engineers to validate and correct FIS information
  • Work on Microstop projects
  • Check Machine Cycle Times regularly & when requested (Frequent checks of operations and machines)
  • Create/Update Capacity sheets
  • Machine Cycle Time updates
  • Use FIS or Stop Watch as required.

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of time study/standards, ratings, MODAPTS, ergonomic evaluations, MTM-UAS
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization from shop floor to management
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Ability to work any shift, overtime and some travel may be required occasionally

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering
  • Manufacturing Assembly experience
  • Launch experience
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
