Position Description:
- An OEM is strengthening its core competency in Functional Safety to support the delivery of advanced vehicle technologies that create a best-in-class customer experience.
- Work with cross-functional and global teams within Product Development to conduct ISO 26262 Functional Safety analysis of challenging new and carry-over technology, including Chassis and Steering Systems.
- Adhere to OEM ISO 26262 processes, methods, tools, and information (formal and on the job training will be provided).
- Create, maintain and deliver Functional Safety work products within Product Development.
- Lead in creating and continuously improving innovative, simple, and safe advanced system designs. Work with other Functional Safety engineers to complete foundational and future Functional Safety analysis.
- Work with other Functional Safety Engineers to create globally common safety ratings, processes, methods, tools, training, and help to accelerate global adoption of SysML based Functional Safety analysis at OEM.
- Results in moving fast and continuously innovating great systems engineering into key technology at OEM.
Job Responsibilities:
- This role focuses on Functional Safety activities within Chassis systems-including braking and steering-critical elements of vehicle dynamics and control.
- As a Product Engineer - Functional Safety (Chassis), you will play a key role within Product Development, partnering with technology subject matter experts and global cross-functional teams.
- You will apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE/SysML) tools to conduct Functional Safety analyses and help design safe, robust, and production-ready systems aligned with ISO 26262 standards.
- This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to next-generation vehicle technologies while growing your expertise in systems engineering and safety-critical product development.
The position is a short term (~6 months) with potential to extend depending on the business demand.
Skills Required:
- Lead and support ISO 26262 Functional Safety analyses for new and carry-over Chassis and Steering systems.
- Collaborate with global, cross-functional Product Development teams to ensure safety is embedded from concept through production.
- Create, maintain, and deliver required Functional Safety work products in alignment with established processes and standards.
- Apply MBSE/SysML methodologies to improve analysis efficiency and system clarity.
- Contribute to the development of innovative, simplified, and safe system architectures.
- Support the advancement of globally aligned safety ratings, processes, methods, tools, and training initiatives.
- Promote continuous improvement and accelerate adoption of SysML-based Functional Safety practices across engineering teams.
Skills Preferred:
- Working knowledge of electrical/electronic systems and software fundamentals.
- Experience in Systems Engineering, Systems Thinking, or MBSE (SysML preferred).
- Background in designing system, software, or electronic hardware architectures.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance concepts and standards.
- Strong written technical communication skills with the ability to produce clear, structured documentation.
Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years of experience applying ISO 26262 to Chassis or Steering systems.
- Experience in Systems Engineering principles and methodologies.
