The Role:
You will be responsible for providing daily welding/dispense technical support to the Maintenance and Quality teams. This work will include being the technical resource for assisting with troubleshooting welding/dispense related equipment failures, coaching/teaching maintenance team members to improve their troubleshooting skills, acting as one of the technical resources for GMW standards, and supporting the Quality/Production teams to make continuous improvements in our welding/dispense processes. This also includes following and adhering to all plant safety regulations and setting the safety example for the teams. This work requires the flexibility to rotate shifts with your welding/dispense counterpart on an agreed upon frequency.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
As the Welding/Dispense Joining Technical Support, you will be the technical resource on the plant floor for the following joining systems:

WELDING PROCESSES:
Resistance spot (Steel and Aluminum)
Projection Nut/Stud Welding
Understanding of Welding GMW standards and how to apply them

DISPENSE SYSTEMS:
SCA Schucker dispense systems
Understanding of camera monitoring systems
Understanding of Dispense GMW standards and how to apply them

OTHER JOINING SYSTEMS:
Mechanical Clinch Nut applications
Self-Piercing Rivet Applications
Laser Braze
MIG Braze
Plasma Arc Braze

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Body Maintenance and Quality teams to meet Process Control Plan and Dispense/Weld standards for all body shop welding, fastening, sealing & adhesive systems.
  • Work with Quality Control Engineer and Process Control Lead running PTR's (new part tryouts) that are welding related.
  • Work with Body Technical Supports and Maintenance Group Leaders to make continuous improvement in weld/dispense performance.
  • Support Body Shop weld teardown team to investigate and follow-up on any identified weld/dispense discrepancies and/or non-conformances.
  • Collect, review, correct, close & log any Teardown identified discrepancies and non-conformances.
  • Assist with troubleshooting welding and dispense issues. Work with maintenance team to troubleshoot and correct welding/dispense issues, and then work with them to put in the appropriate corrective actions on identified issues.
  • Collect weld/dispense discrepancy documents and load the information to database for tracking and identification of repetitive issues. Keep documents on file per ILM requirements.
  • Maintain weld and dispense schedule database
  • Maintain records for all maintenance validation documentation for weld/dispense equipment maintenance interventions. Work with Quality team to complete appropriate validation checks.
  • Be a technical resource for manufacturing engineers, skilled trades, and production teams.
  • Follow all safety policies and provide a good safety example by your actions and personal example.
  • Work with engineering & production teams to make continuous improvement on quality and cost objectives.
  • Support QCE engineer with adjustments to Body dispense systems to address any identified Body Leak test findings.
  • Support OPEX projects
  • Maintain the TPW resistance welding monitoring system and TPS dispense monitoring system.
  • Utilize and maintain the Raft gateway WTC weld controller software and be able to make appropriate weld schedule changes as needed.
  • Update Weld Tool Information Sheets, maintain on SharePoint.
  • Update Weld Process Data Sheets with HMS Support, maintain on SharePoint.
  • Generate & distribute "MCRs" Manufacturing Change Requests to update welding/dispense records.
  • Support ISO and GMS audits for welding and dispense related items.
  • Work on Welding/Dispense related follow-up.

Required Qualifications:
Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Body Shop plant floor experience
Ability to work overtime and off-shift as needed
Ability to rotate shifts

Preferred Qualifications:
Body Shop maintenance experience
Experience working as a Body Shop Maintenance Group Leader or as Tech Support
Bachelor's degree in weld engineering

Education: High School Diploma required
Welding Engineering degree preferred
Bachelor's degree preferred

Years of experience: 2-4 years of experience at least
However - without a Bachelor's Degree would like to see at least 5-7 years
Automotive/body shop manufacturing experience - do really well in this position

Shift Info:
Onsite

  • 1st Shift 5:30AM-3:00PM
  • 2nd Shift 1:30PM-11PM
  • 3rd Shift 9:30PM-7AM
  • They will start out on 1st shift for training - the timeline of training and being on 1st shift depends on the person and their experience (some 30 days and some take 6 months)
  • They will settle into a shift they are happy with, not really rotating shifts, but it could be possible
  • Need to be open to all shifts.
