Test & Bench Ownership
Execute diesel fuel injector development and validation testing across multiple engine programs.
Develop, implement, and execute first-time capable tests for hardware development and validation on diesel injector benches.
Lead diagnosis and resolution of issues that occur during test setup, execution, and post-test investigations.
Track and report test status, issues, and risks to support program milestones and decision making.
Ensure all testing is conducted in accordance with GM safety, quality, and procedural standards.
Data, Tools & Virtualization
Create, maintain, and utilize post-processing tools (e.g., MATLAB) to assure data quality and improve test efficiency.
Analyze data to optimize test plans, reduce test time, and support virtual model development and correlation.
Identify and implement data reduction opportunities, including standardization of data sets and automation of routine analysis tasks.
Contribute to the migration of lab-based activities to virtual methods, partnering with analysis and virtualization teams.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with facilities, technical specialists, calibration teams, hardware release engineers, and other stakeholders to improve process and test efficiency.
Participate in the pursuit of test reduction and elimination, working with design, analysis, and program teams to identify where physical testing can be streamlined, replaced, or virtualized.
Support continuous improvement of standard work, procedures, and documentation for diesel injector bench testing.
Leadership & Mentoring
Train, mentor, and develop new engineers and co-ops/rotators on bench operation, safety, and standard work.
Provide technical guidance on diesel fuel injector function, test methods, and data interpretation to peers and partners.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive engineering with engine knowledge (diesel or gasoline).
Demonstrated drive for results in a laboratory or development environment.
Strong planning and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple test activities in parallel.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, build peer relationships, and work independently with minimal direction.
Proven ability to prioritize work and resources, balancing urgent program needs with long-term improvements.
Proficient with computer and data acquisition systems used in test environments.
Experience in data analysis to optimize testing, assess hardware performance, or support model correlation.
Experience using and creating MATLAB scripts for data analysis and post-processing.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with AVL PUMA/IndiCom and ETAS INCA software.
Exposure to engine calibration in test cell and/or vehicle environments.
5 years of experience in automotive engineering with engine development or testing.
Hands-on experience with engine dynamometer setup and testing.
Experience with diesel engine function, architecture, and subsystems, including high-pressure common-rail fuel injection.
Hands-on experience with diesel injector or common-rail bench testing (flow, leakage, spray characterization, durability, etc.).
Education and Training: one of the following is required
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics
