Job Title: Chemist / Laboratory Technician (Materials R&D)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Chemist or Laboratory Technician to support hands-on research and development activities in materials science. This role involves working in a laboratory environment to prepare, test, and analyze a variety of materials, including functional glazing and lightweight structural components. The ideal candidate will have foundational lab experience and a strong interest in material characterization and testing. Training will be provided on specialized equipment, techniques, and software.

Key Responsibilities
Functional Glazing Materials (Approx. 50%)
Prepare samples including laminated glass, functional glass interlayers, and characterization specimens (training provided on equipment and processes)
Perform material characterization including:
UV-VIS spectroscopy (training provided)
Mechanical testing (training provided)
Thermal imaging and electrical resistance measurements (training provided)
Collect, extract, and analyze data using: Excel
FLIR software (training provided)
MATLAB (training provided as needed)
Document test procedures, results, and observations
Lightweight Structural Materials & Components (Approx. 50%)
Prepare and machine material samples (training provided on relevant equipment)
Conduct material characterization including:
Thermal analysis (Dilatometry, DSC, DMA, TMA) (training provided)
Mechanical testing (tension, compression, flexural testing) (training provided)
Optical microscopy (training provided)
Support testing, validation, and reporting for R&D projects

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field (preferred but not required)
1-3 years of experience in an R&D or laboratory environment
Hands-on experience with standard laboratory equipment and microscopes
Exposure to material characterization techniques (preferred; training provided for specific methods)
Basic data analysis skills using Excel or similar tools
Preferred Skills
Interest or exposure to UV-VIS spectroscopy, thermal analysis, or mechanical testing
Familiarity with materials such as glass, polymers, or composites
Exposure to MATLAB or similar data analysis tools
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow lab procedures

Additional Information
This is a hands-on, in-person laboratory role
Extensive training will be provided on equipment, testing methods, and software tools
