Position Description:
The Quality Engineer position focuses on issues with the engine and thermal systems that manifest later in product life. The role requires utilizing best practice problem solving to quickly determine root cause, develop strategies and tools to catch issues sooner, develop new designs and execute test plans that ensure such issues are averted in the future and support efficient and robust service solutions. This position entails interesting and fast paced projects centered on design/physics related quality issues that typically manifest later in product life. Be a part of the team that is providing significant reliability improvements for OEM, helping to achieve our aggressive quality improvement goals.
What you'll do...
Lead/support Lower Cost Per Repair Projects and AI Tool Development processes on aggressive timelines to support IPTSE's warranty spend reduction targets.
Responsibilities include evaluation of high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems and engine/vehicle applications. Coach Lower Cost Per Repair Process and Lessons Learned to broader Quality team in NA and globally.
Project leaders/supporters will be expected to present frequently to senior management project status and results, interface regularly with quality, powerpack, core engineers and Technical Specialists.
Strong focus on warranty data/trend analysis and physical understanding of engine/powertrain systems and subsystems as key tools to identify more efficient repair processes. Ability to design, execute or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full powertrain/vehicle testing to identify root cause, replicate quality issues and validate changes.
Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation. ยท Lead problem solving sub-groups.
Skills Required:
- Analytical skills, Microsoft PowerPoint, Data Analysis, Microsoft Excel, Problem Solving
- Analytical skills - Compare warranty claims across vehicle models to identify which components are driving the most repairs.
- Microsoft PowerPoint - Create a concise presentation explaining a test program's results, key risks, and recommended next steps.
- Data Analysis - Clean and combine test data, then identify trends that help explain differences in component performance.
- Microsoft Excel - Use formulas, pivot tables, and charts to summarize test results and flag out-of-range measurements.
- Problem Solving - Investigate a recurring test failure, narrow down possible causes, and verify the fix with follow-up testing.
Skills Preferred:
- Statistics , OEM's powertrain, Google Cloud Platform, Big Data, Data/Analytics dashboards, Electrical Engineering, Microsoft PowerPoint, Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Methodology, Python, Technical Publications, GCP, Hardware Experience, Six-Sigma Training, Mechanical Engineering, Six Sigma Green Belt, Big Query, Data/Analytics
- Statistics - Apply confidence intervals or hypothesis testing to determine whether a measured performance change is likely to be meaningful.
- OEM's powertrain - Explain how an engine, transmission, or electrified propulsion system works and how its components interact.
- Google Cloud Platform - Use a GCP service such as Cloud Storage or BigQuery to store and analyze engineering data.
- Big Data - Work with large, high-volume datasets-such as vehicle sensor logs-and use scalable tools to process them.
- Data/Analytics dashboards - Build a dashboard that tracks metrics such as test completion, defect counts, or quality trends.
- Electrical Engineering - Read a circuit diagram and troubleshoot a sensor or control-system issue using measurements and test results.
- Microsoft PowerPoint - Duplicate from above
- Quality Engineer - Use inspection and process data to investigate a defect, document root cause, and help prevent recurrence.
- Six Sigma Methodology - Apply DMAIC-Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control-to reduce variation in a manufacturing or test process.
- Python - Write a script to clean test data, calculate summary statistics, and generate plots.
- Technical Publications - Create or update a service or engineering procedure with clear steps, diagrams, and safety notes.
- GCP - Duplicate from above
- Hardware Experience - Set up, operate, or troubleshoot equipment such as sensors, data-acquisition hardware, or test fixtures.
Experience Required:
- 6 months of experience leading projects
- 6 months of experience with internal combustion engines, thermal systems or after-treatment systems in one or more of the following areas: Design, Test, Controls, Calibration
